Damodar is one of the most important rivers of the West Bengal which flows through the districts of Burdwan, Medinipur , Howrah and Hooghly.
In the past decades when the flow of the Damodar river was stronger than the present time, it caused flood in the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, Medinipur during the monsoon season.And these floods caused a lot of damages in the river bank areas.
That's why this river is also referred as the river of sorrow.
