why is ruthenium an exception?

↪Ruthenium of atomic no. 44 it is only 8th group element which haven't 2 electrons in outer shell. That's why it is exception.

In Ruthenium due to d-d separation dxy, dyz, dzx have less energy then dx2-y2 and dz2 have greater energy thus d3,d8 configurations becomes more stable. In Ruthenium energy for transition is more hence go to d7.
