to understand the question, you need to know the definition of secondary immune response and primary immune response.
SECONDARY IMMUNE RESPONSE: A rapid immune response which occurs at the second and subsequent exposure of the same person to the same antigen. It lasts for longer periods.
PRIMARY IMMUNE RESPONSE: a slow/longer time taking immune response which occurs as a result of the first contact with an antigen. It declines rapidly.
so, for secondary immume response to occur, that person should have undergone through primary immune response also.
as a result of exposure during primary immune response, some memory cells will be produced. so, these memory cells will remember that antigen and react accordingly(produce antibodies in large scale)during the secondary immune response.
this is the reason why secondary immune response lasts for longtime and is more rapidly produced.
