because in this process no new substance is formed. our mechical energy is applied only. So the substance is same after sharping it .hence it is a physical change

sharpening of pencil is considered to be a physical change because if we sharp a pencil it will still remain the same thing it will not change. but the shape of the pencil will change. it's only physical change if we r talking about the material or thing.
