Ship-breaking involves cutting metal using gas-cutters, blow-torches and other machinery and equipment. These instruments have to be used with utmost care and caution. Ships may also contain hazardous materials, which may spill or explode during ship-breaking.
It involves working in extremely closed atmosphere, to working at great, open heights and exposure to heat. All these working conditions pose dangers to the people who are involved in ship-breaking and hence, it is a hazardous industry.
