Why is short pitch winding preferred over full-pitch winding

Short pitched coils are deliberately used because of: Due to elimination of high frequency harmonics, eddy currents and hysteresis losses; which in turn increases the efficiency. They save copper if end connections, which is a big economic win. They improve the wave form of the generated EMF.
