herbivores eats grass which need a longer small intestine to allow the cellulose to be digested while meat is easier to digest hence carnivores have a shrter small intestine.

For the following reason the small intestine in herbivores is longer than carnivores.

Explanation:

  • The largest part of the herbivore's diet is formed by cellulose.
  • The digestion of cellulose takes a longer time than usual because the ruminant bacteria produces the enzymes that exist in the stomach of the herbivore.
  • The longer small intestines ensure that the food stays in the stomach for a longer duration and digest properly.
  • In Carnivores, there is a lack of cellulose in their diet thus the length of the small intestine is less.
