Sodium and potassium are highly active metals in presence of air and water. Kerosene is immiscible with water, it will prevent these metals from coming into contact with wat vapour or moisture. So are kept in kerosene. Na and K are not kept in water as they cause explosion and generate high amount of heat, So Na and K are kept in kerosene and not in water. Hope it helps.
