It is because sodium chloride is comparatively more Ionic than magnesium chloride. And more Ionic a compound is, higher its melting and boiling point. Now, why is sodium chloride more Ionic than magnesium chloride? The answer is simple. Magnesium chloride has more covalent character than sodium chloride. Why's that? Applying the concept of polarization, we know that smaller the cation and larger the anion, more is the covalent character(because a small cation has a larger charge density and it pulls the electron cloud of the anion towards itself) . Now since Mg2+ is smaller than Na+ and anion ie Cl- is the same in both cases, we can conclude that MgCl2 is more covalent than NaCl, which means NaCl is more Ionic than MgCl2.
