Because sodium is more reactive then magnesium.....

Because the lattice of nacl is much nore than mgcl2 ...as size of na+ is smaller than that of mg2+ ..and smaller is the size of the cation ..more is the lattice enthalpy of compound..because it bcmes more difficult to break the bond
