sodium hydroxide would neutralise excess stomach acid very nicely, but it would also burn a huge hole in your stomach causing an exceedingly painful death.
NaOH is far too powerful a base to be used safely in over the counter remedies. It's so corrosive you would never touch a pellet of it with your bare hands.
