⏩Sodium is a highly reactive element. If you put it in water, or you get it into air with water dissolved in it, the reaction the sodium will accomplish is: 2Na + 2H20 -> 2NaOH + H2 + enough heat to ignite the hydrogen which is why when you throw sodium in water it blows up. Water is a polar molecule, the hydrocarbons in kerosene are all non polar, and polar molecules won’t mix with non polar ones. This will keep water away from the sodium metal, and it’ll stay fresh and unexploded for a long time.
