because sodium is very reactive if it is kept open it will react with oxygen and the reaction is highly exothermic

SODIUM is a very reactive metal ....
it is so reactive that it even reacts with the oxygen present in the air.....
so to prevent sodium from reacting and to keep it safe it's kept in kerosene....
