why is soil erosion relatively less in dense forests as compared to barren, open fields?

It is because trees bind the soil well keeping them fertile and so ther is less soil erosion in dense forests. Whereas in barren labds there are no trees so the soil is not binded well and it becomes dry, When wind blows through these areas the soil is taken along with the wind.
