in dense forests the roots of the trees help in holding the soil firmly which prevent washing away of the soil whereas in barren land agents like water and air can easily carry away the top soil which can cause soil erosion.

Soil erosin is less in dense in forests as compared to Barren space
Because in Dense forests the soil is hold by Roots of trees ,hence it does carry away by any erosion factor ,But in open space there are not trees hence the soil is not holded thus it is carry away by any factor like Wind water etc.
