the basic reason why the planets revolve around, on the orbit , is that the gravity of the Sun keeps them in their orbit and makes them revolvethe sun and the solar system itself revolves around the milky waythe milky way revolves around the universe

Because the gravity from the sun make the solar planet revolve around, and revolve on the orbit. Beside that, because no other force to detain solar planet to stop revolve.
see,the centripetal force on any object is the maximum when it is spherical in shape and this is one of the major reasons
