dry ice is the comman name of solid carbandioxide (co2) it gets this name because it does not melt into a liquid when heated , instead it changed directly into a gas ( it process known as sublimation )

solid carbon dioxide us also called dry ice because it is stored under high temperature. On decreasing pressure due to atmospheric pressure it gets converted directly into gaseous state without coming into liquid state
