To locate a target, a submarine uses active and passive SONAR (sound navigation and ranging). Active sonaremits pulses of sound waves that travel through the water, reflect off the target and return to the ship.

khushikumarisingh872: Sonar is used to check the depth and undersea objects.....as it consists of sonar apparatus which emits ultrasonic waves by the transmitter which travels through water and gets reflected back after striking an object.These reflected rays are detected by detector ....we can calculate the distance , velocity sound and time taken by using the formula ..... (2d=vt )
