longitudinal waves are the waves in which particles oscillates perpendicular to the direction of wave.

•sound waves are called longitudnal waves because when sound passes through air it vibtates back and forth parallel to the direction of sound wave , thus sound waves travels in horizontal durection, and its particles also vibrate back and forth in horizontal direction
