why is space between rail in railway tracks

because in summer due to heat of sun makes rail molecules expand if rail molecules expands it causes overlapping of rails or breaking of rails...that's why there are spaces between railway track

If we talk at molecular level, then you shuld know that on increasing the temperature, kinetic energy of molecules increases and the start to vibrate more. This results in expansion of the material.

That's why the iron rails expands in summer. And the gap is provided to make the space available for expansion. Otherwise due to stress, the rails will crack.
