Why is speed of sound less when the density of the gas if more according to v = 1/density of gas?

Yes, speed of sound decreases with increase in density of the medium through which the sound travels. Recall, velocity V is proportional to the square root of Temperature T. Since density decreases with temperature, mathematically, it means temperature varies inversely with density. Relating density with speed now while keeping in mind the relationship between temperature and density, speed will vary inversely with density.
