The Standard Meridian is needed to determine the time of a particular country.
In India, there is a time lag of two hours between its westernmost and easternmost states, i.e. Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh respectively. Therefore to avoid the confusion the latitude passing through Mirzapur ( Uttar Pradesh ) with value of 82°30'E is considered as the Standard Meridian of India. The time of that latitudinal region is accepted as the Indian Standard Time.
