The work of the upper surface of the leaf is to absorb light energy for carrying out photosynthesis. the cells in the upper surface of the leaves can do it the most effectively as this surface of the leaf faces the sun. now the lower surface of the leaf has tiny pores called stomata that carry out the exchange of gases and water vapour. this is because ifstomata would be present on the upper side of a leaf, dust and other impurities from the air might have damaged stomata cells. also excessive sunlight energy would be entering into the stomata does damaging it. thus, the main function of the upper surface of the leaf is to absorb sunlight and the lower surface of the leaf is to carry out the exchange of Oxygen and water.

HOPE THIS HELPS U

HAVE A GREAT DAY

MehakMalik: Thanks for your answer...Buy just now I searched it in my book and I got the answer as It will loose less water during transpiration so it is present in lower surface of the leaf....
