food chain is linear network .The food chain starts from producer organism and ends at the species and the organism are related to each other by food that they consume where as natural ecosystem is a group of both living and non living organism and the components interaction is with natural things

Consider a food chain from grassland ecosystem. In this plant are considered as producers. They produce food which is consumed by bees, grass hoppers, cows, goats, Rabbit etc who are called as primary consumers.
Then these primary consumers are consumed by different types of secondary consumers. From this it can be understood that straight line food chain not common in natural ecosystems.
