The Subsidiary Alliance was a very sly method of annexation introduced by Lord Wellesly. It was a policy of Indirect subordination because, of the following points:
• They have to accept British as the Supreme power.
•They surrender their freedom and foreign relations to the East India Company and they would not wage wars or form any other alliance.
•They would not employ any European(without consulting the company) . Only British resident should be employed at their headquarters.
