Why is sulphur iv oxide an oxidizing and reducing agents

sulphur can be reduced to hydrogen sulphide and therefore it is an oxidizing agent (it oxidizes something else whilst being reduced itself). But it can also be oxidised to sulphur dioxide and that means it is a reducing agent.
