Sulphur Trioxide is not directly absorbed by water as it doesnot dissolve in water satisfactorily and it gives a lot of heat and forms misty droplets of Sulphuric Acid.

♦ SO3 dissolution in water is extremely exothermic. This forces the sulfuric acid to form a mist of tiny droplets so Sulphur Trioxide is not directly absorbed by water..
