Summer Ploughing is known as the ploughing of field all around during hot summer with specialized tools. Its primary objective is to open the soil crust along with deep ploughing and also overturning of the soil so as to disinfect it ugh piercing sun rays. Summer ploughing is done (off season tillage) during pre-monsoon showers (in the month of  May) to replenish the soil quality. It facilitates sowing of crops immediately after starting of southwest monsoon. Off season tillage or ploughing during summer helps in the increase of water content of soil and reduces surface runoff. It also helps in decreasing pest and weed growth.
