This is seen when scattering of sunlight occurs, when the sunlight pass through suspended air particles present in atmosphere. Sunlight scatters only white light.

Sunlight is regarded as white light because it is a combination of seven different lights of the colours which we see in rainbow i.e. VIBGYOR.

VIBGYOR stands for
V - Violet
I - Indigo
B - Blue
G - Green
Y - Yellow
O - Orange
R - Red

This combination of seven colours is also called the spectrum. We can observe it by passing the sunlight through the Prism or water.
