Why is terminal voltage of a cell less than its emf?

Explanation:
Because Terminal voltage is only the amount of work done in moving a charge in circuit (Outside not inside )
Where as
Emf is the total amount of work done in moving the charge around the complete circuit ( inside and outside both )
So Emf is greater then Terminal voltage
Note : Terminal voltage is equal to cell when cell is not in use and while less than the emf when cell in use.
