Why is Mg^{+} ion unstable ?

hey,
like all elements,Mg+ is striving for on octet ( 8 valence electrons ) this is the most stable electrons configuration for most atoms. by the Mg+ losing only one electron ( +1 ) it has not reached that eight desired valence electrons configuration.
