Hey user...

sodium metal react with water to form sodium oxide which further dissolve in water to give sodium hydroxide solution .

aluminium reacts with oxygen to form Aluminium oxide which does not dissolve in water to form aluminium hydroxide .
the metals placed lower in the reactivity series are less reactive towards water .

it happens because sodium dissolves in water and make sodium hydroxide but aluminium does not dissolve in water so it only form aluminium oxide.
