It is due to topographic factor of Earth
Let's take an example of India itself
The highest rainfall in India is Mawnsyram Meghalaya and lowest amount of rainfall is Ladakh (Leh).
So it depends upon the place as well .As we move towards south to north the amount of water bearing clouds lose water.
