why is that speed is given as 2m/s in both directions while velocity is given as - 2m/s and +2m/s in the figure alongside? ​

 But       velocity -- vector Quantity

if you study then you know that scalar quantity have only magnitude

while vector quantity have both magnitude & DIRECTION
