Why is the amount of gas collected in one of the test tube in electrolysis of water is double of the amount collected in the other? Name the gas.

During electrolysis of water (H2O) hydrogen and oxygen gas gets collected in the test tubes.

Amount of hydrogen gas is double to that of oxygen as -

2H20(l) --- 2H2(g) + O (g)

In water there are two molecules of hydrogen .

In the electrolytic process of water the gas collected in one tube is double as compared to the other because of the reason that the molecules of hydrogen are twice the amount of Oxygen i.e. H2O.
The two gases are : Hydrogen and Oxygen.
