why is the amplitude of the damped vibration gradually decrease ?​

The amplitude of an oscillating pendulum goes on decreasing with time and ultimately the pendulum stops.

Reason :

The main reason is that whenever a body oscillates, some kind of frictional force ( i. e. damping force) is present such as friction due to air and friction due to support from which the body is suspended etc.

This friction force opposes the motion of the body and hence the energy given to the body is converted to heat in doing the work against friction.


This is called energy dissipation and due to. this the amplitude goes on decreasing...

Because it is vibrating under ththinfluence of several resistive forces.

Free vibrations without dampening vibrations can only be possible in vaccum.
