The author Ranjit Lal is glad that there were no cellphones in the old days because the onus of looking after the pup would have then been on him. He had given in to his children’s desires and got them on the condition that they would look after the animal. The author is happy that there were no cell phones then because the children would have spent all their time on them and left the dog unattended.
