The rains are more or less intense and long depending on area, but generally the wettest period is from July to September, except in the southeast, where the retreating monsoon continues until the end of the year. The hottest period generally runs from April to mid-June, before the arrival of the monsoon, so the calendar's spring in a way is the real summer. Winter lasts from December to February. In the north-west, the monsoon is shorter, while in inland mountains of Kashmir the monsoon doesn't arrive at all. Along the coast it's hot all year round, especially in the center and south, but the heat is tempered by the breezes.
