Smaller area will exert more pressure, thus the foundation ofbuildings, which are heavier than walls are made wide so that is doesn't exert too much force on the ground and penetrate into it. THE FOUNDATIONS OF HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS ARE WIDE. THIS REDUCES THE PRESSURE OF THE BUILDING ON THE GROUND.
