Answer: Cell is responsible for building the whole body of an organism, therefore it is termed as the structural unit. In other words, all living organisms are made up of cell.
It is also called as the functional unit because it is responsible for performing all the essential functions for the organism. These functions can be metabolic, biochemical, physiological, and genetic in nature. Due to this, the living systems are kept alive.
For example- Glycolysis ( glucose breakdown into pyruvate) takes place in the cytoplasm of all the cells in order to yield energy in the form of ATP and NADH.
Thus, cell is called as the structural and functional unit of life.
