Their cell wall is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin. They typically contain a high amount of pectin, the proportion of which component may reach up to 40%. This tissue type of high tearing resistance provides flexibility. The cell walls of collenchyma cells is considerably but unevenly thickened.
