The consumer movement is slow in India due to mainly three reasons.
(1) Filing of complaints in the consumer court is not very easy and one needs to have a trained lawyer for the purpose. Hiring a lawyer can be a tedious process in the country and that can take up valuable time and resources.
(2) The judgements are not passed in a swift manner. The court proceedings usually drag on for years together so that the essence of a case is lost.
(3) Absence of any severe punishment and ignorance and illiteracy are also some of the factors that have hampered consumer movement in the country.
