An emergency auction will be held today for Brazil's national airline, Varig, which has cancelled most of its flights and faces liquidation unless a buyer comes forward.
The carrier, which employs 9,000 people and was once the largest in Latin America, suspended much of its international network on Tuesday amid a worsening financial crisis. Just three out of 22 services operated - to London, Frankfurt and Miami. Including domestic routes, only 86 out of 139 flights took off.
