oxidation:-when in a molecule one atom of oxygen is added or a hydrogen molecule is removed is called oxidation.
C2H5OH  ----------------->   CH3COOH
in this reaction oxidation takes place hence it is called oxidation reaction.

The conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid called an oxidation reaction

Oxidation: Addition of oxygen is called oxidation.

Let's see the equation,

CH3-CH2-OH  Alkaline KMn O 4 → CH3-COOH

In the above equation the number of oxygen atoms in product molecule is greater than the number of oxygen atoms present in reactant molecules.

During the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid 1 oxygen atom is added to the ethanol to convert ethanoic acid. Addition of oxygen is nothing but oxidation. Hence, the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid called an oxidation reaction
