It is an oxidation reaction as ethanol is converted to ethanoic acid since the hydrogen atom is removed and oxygen is added.
1st step
To make ethanal, an H2 molecule is removed from ethanol in the first step. The reaction is an oxidation reaction since the loss of hydrogen is an oxidation reaction.
2nd step
Ethanoic acid is formed by adding an oxygen atom to ethanal. As, gain of Oxygen is called oxidation so, the reaction is an oxidation reaction.
