Ethanol is an organic alcohol of molecular formula C2H5OH , and that of ethanoic acid is an organic carboxylic acid of molecular formula , CH3COOH.
So in order to convert to ethanol to ethanoic acid , we need tooxidise the alcohol and get the desired product.
This can be achieved by reacting the alcohol with a strong oxidising agent.
The suitable agents are[math] KMnO4/OH^-[/math] and heat , acidified [math]K2Cr2O7[/math] , [math]CrO3/H2SO4 [/math](Jones reagent ) and there are number of them. Just add any one of them to ethanol and get the product ethanoic acid.
Hope I am able to clear the conversion.
