bcoz in ethanoic acid oxygen is added and hydrogen is removed

CH3CH2OH
ethanol

CH3COOH

ethanoic acid

because in this reaction there is a loss of hydrogen and in the second step oxygen atom is added to it therefore it is an oxidation reaction
