Why is the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid called as oxidation reaction?

As loss of Hydrogen is oxidation so, the reaction is an oxidation reaction. Similarly, in second step a Oxygen atom is added to form ethanoic acidfrom ethanal. ... Since the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid involves the addition of oxygen to ethanol, it is an oxidation reaction.
