when a current flowing through a circuit is large the heating effect is large due to which the bulb glows . torchlight bulb cannot be used the detect weak electric current flowing through a liquid in a circuit .

Why is the current in the circuit weak ?

Liquids like water (mineral water, or water with impurities), acids, bases, salts etc offers high resistance to current than metal conductors. So, after passing through conducting liquids the current in the circuit becomes weak.
