Let take A and B as an example.
If A is directly proportional to B then if A increases by a factor K then B also increases by same factor.
If A is inversely proportional to B then if A increases get by factor K then B decreases by same factor.

In a direct proportion, as one of the quantities increases the other also increases.inverse proportion, as one quantity increases the other decreases.
